Finish
Complete from start to “Finish”
At EWPdoors.com we want to make buying a new door as easy and hassle free as possible. That’s why we only sell factory finished doors. Each door comes with a premium finish that rivals the competition. We have utilized state of the art finish techniques so each door looks great and lasts a lifetime. Our entry door systems feature pre-stained panels and moulding which insures that raw wood sight lines will not develop over time from expansion or contraction with changing weather conditions.
After each door is assembled it is given a Polane© exterior top coat with UV inhibitors that were specifically developed by Sherwin Williams to ensure un-paralleled protection from the elements. Each door receives a total of 13 steps, after each of which the door is physically inspected for defects. By taking the following steps, the result is flawless furniture like finish which enhances each doors beauty and performance:
1. Sanding raw door with 240-grit to clean off any contaminants
2. Detail sanding of all profiles with 240-grit
3. Application of penetrating stain by hand
4. Application of wood filler/sealer to smooth out and seal grain
5. Soft sanding after wood filler/sealer dries
6. Application of prime coating
7. Fine sanding with 320-grit
8. Application of first catalyzed UV inhibited topcoat
9. Second fine sanding with 320-grit
10. Application of second topcoat
11. Third fine sanding with 320-grit
12. Application of third topcoat
13. Final touch up of details and profiles.
Knotty alder doors may also be ordered distressed. The distressing is created by hand and offers a unique old world rustic charm. The distressing process is characterized by visible knot holes, surface scratches and dents over the surface of the door and trim. By distressing our doors during manufacturing and prior to finishing, it provides us the opportunity to give each door the effect of being uniquely weathered, while still maintaining the quality and integrity you would expect from a new first quality unit.

Here you will find a sample of our exterior wood colors and finishes. Keep in mind that photos may not be an exact representation of the actual color or grain pattern. The natural characteristics of wood make it impossible for two doors to be exactly the same. Variations in density, grain pattern, and age means that each door will take the finish slightly different. In addition, we are limited by how each video processor and color management software re-generates colors and photo on your display. We do offer finish samples for a small postage fee in the event that color matching is necessary and to provide an accurate depiction of the true beauty and superiority of our finish.
